Welcome! I am pleased you have chosen to read this short article and I hope you continue to join us each month as we discover and discuss topics of Life Enrichment surrounding the senior adult population.
What is Life Enrichment? Life Enrichment is the process of evaluating a person’s current quality of life and seeking to improve upon such quality via activities pertaining to the mind, body, and spirit. Simply put: Life Enrichment seeks to make someone’s life better. Better yet, the best life it can be.
The Life Enrichment process can vary from grandiose gestures and activities to small acts disguised as simple kindness. Yes, we have our everyday activities, our entertainers, our large family parties. But what about the simple everyday interactions? Those are life-enriching too. One resident, who chooses to not participate in planned activities, just visited me at my computer and asked what I was doing. I told him I was starting a blog about Life Enrichment. He said, “I don’t need Life Enrichment.” Yet every evening after dinner he stops and has a ten-minute conversation with me about the day. That conversation helps him to fight issues of loneliness and lets him know he is valued. You see, Life Enrichment “activities” can be hidden in small interactions. It is very important to realize the significance in each and every encounter we have throughout the day. You never know who is in need of a kind smile, a small chat, or a kind word. You can change someone’s day with the smallest of efforts.
Every moment of my day is calculated within the mind frame of Life Enrichment. The way we treat those around us has a huge impact on our facility, our community, our country, and our world. It’s important. I hope you join us in the following months to read more about Life Enrichment.
